Sonos Ace Ultra Over-Ear Headphones
By Nick Miles · Updated 2026-10-03 · 7 expert sources
Pros
- +Rated for up to 35 hours with ANC or Aware Mode on (Sonos); Trusted Reviews' drain test worked out to around 38 hours
- +The USB-C cable carries calls as well as audio and playback controls, so the mic keeps working wired to a laptop; the 3.5mm cable does not carry calls (Sonos)
- +User-replaceable 1060 mAh battery with official replacement kits, plus magnetically attached, removable earcups (Sonos, Gizmodo)
- +10-microphone array with Sidetone for calls (Sonos); Engadget found its voice pickup above average
- +Multipoint keeps a laptop and a phone connected, and a double-press of the Power/Bluetooth button swaps the active source (Sonos)
Cons
- −Multipoint is off by default and has to be switched on in the Sonos app (Sonos, Trusted Reviews)
- −Call quality is not class-leading: Trusted Reviews calls it "not the best", and What Hi-Fi? found it lets in more environmental noise than the Sony WH-1000XM6
- −Gizmodo rates Bose's QuietComfort Ultra (2nd Gen) ahead on noise cancelling and comfort, and felt some earcup discomfort after long periods of wear
- −No official IP rating (Gizmodo), and Sonos's own control rundown lists no mic-mute control

Build safety is provisional. Our 2026-10-03 search of CPSC recall data found no recall for this product, and no safety, heat or failure reports turned up in our sources, but we have not yet verified its UL/ETL or equivalent safety certification. The 9.0 is a placeholder until that evidence is reviewed, not a certified rating.
What the experts say
“Speaking of call quality, the Ace Ultra has above average voice pickup; I noticed I sounded better than I typically do on headphones and earbuds. It's not the absolute best, but it's also perfectly usable.”
“Call quality, however, is not the best.”
“Bose's QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) have better ANC and are more comfortable, while Sony and Apple outpace the Ace Ultra and the QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) in sound quality”
